Introduction
The Professional Journey of Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Quang, MD, PhD
Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Quang’s medical journey began at Hanoi Medical University, where he graduated in 1994 and soon entered the highly demanding pathway of surgical residency. The long on-call nights, his earliest operations, and the rigorous surgical environment laid a solid foundation for a young physician known for discipline, resilience, and professional dedication.
Among the many graduates of 1994, Dr. Quang was honored to become one of only two physicians selected for the Surgical Residency Program at Hanoi Medical University (Class 19, 1995–1998) — a prestigious program with a highly competitive selection process, for which each physician is given only one opportunity to apply in a lifetime.
From general surgery, Dr. Quang gradually found his professional calling in urology and andrology, a field that was still relatively new in Vietnam at that time. He pursued advanced academic training and completed his PhD in Urological Surgery at the Military Medical University. In parallel, he continuously expanded his expertise through international training programs and fellowships in Taiwan, the United States, South Korea, and Thailand, gaining access to the latest advances in modern medicine.
With a strong surgical background and an international academic perspective, Dr. Quang devoted many years to urogenital surgery, andrological microsurgery, the treatment of male infertility, sexual dysfunction, and genital reconstructive surgery. He places particular emphasis on comprehensive care—focusing not only on symptom management but also on long-term quality of life for his patients.
Currently, Dr. Quang serves as Director of the Center for Andrology and Sexual Medicine at Viet Duc University Hospital, the leading tertiary surgical hospital and one of the oldest medical institutions in Vietnam. Here, together with his colleagues, he continues to build and advance the field of andrology and sexual medicine in a structured, standardized, and internationally integrated direction.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Quang is a devoted educator and scientist. He is Head of the Department of Urology – Andrology and Sexual Medicine at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and is actively involved in teaching at multiple medical universities. He has supervised numerous PhD candidates, postgraduate students, and medical residents. He is the author and co-author of more than 100 scientific publications and has contributed to numerous medical textbooks and specialized monographs.
As President of the Vietnam Society for Sexual Medicine, Dr. Quang continues to play a key role in professional networking, fostering international collaboration, organizing scientific conferences, and raising public awareness of reproductive and sexual health. For him, medicine is not only about treating disease, but also a lifelong commitment to improving quality of life and human well-being.
